Warwan Valley, also known as Wadwan, is one of the most remote and beautiful valleys of Jammu & Kashmir. Located in Kishtwar district, the valley lies between the Kashmir Valley and the high mountains towards Ladakh. It is famous for its vast green meadows, flowing rivers and streams, waterfalls, forests, snow-covered peaks and traditional mountain villages.
The Warwan River flows through the valley, creating spectacular scenery along the route. The area remains relatively unexplored compared with popular Kashmir destinations such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg, making it an excellent destination for nature lovers, photographers, trekkers and travellers looking for an offbeat Kashmir experience.
One of the highlights of the journey is crossing Margan Top, the dramatic mountain gateway into Warwan Valley. The route itself is an important part of the experience, with changing landscapes from the Kashmir Valley to pine forests, high-altitude mountain terrain and the green valley below.
Because of heavy winter snowfall, Warwan can remain cut off for several months of the year. The most reliable period for road travel is generally the warmer months, subject to road and weather conditions.
Altitude
Approx. 2,134 metres / 7,000 feet above sea level for the valley.
Note: elevations vary considerably within Warwan Valley; nearby localities and surrounding mountain passes are much higher.
Latitude & Longitude
Latitude: 33.86417° N

How to Reach Warwan Valley
From Srinagar by Road:
Srinagar → Anantnag → Kokernag → Daksum/Gawran → Margan Top → Warwan Valley.
The road journey is approximately 150 km from Srinagar, although the exact distance and travel time depend on the destination within the valley and current road conditions.
By Air:
The nearest major airport is Srinagar International Airport. From Srinagar, continue by road towards Anantnag/Kokernag and then cross Margan Top to enter Warwan Valley.
By Road from Kishtwar:
Warwan is also connected geographically with Kishtwar, although the approach and road accessibility can be difficult and seasonal. The Kashmir-side route over Margan Top is the commonly described motorable tourist approach.
